Mark Burd (Vocals) - was born in Miami, Florida. Mark started taking piano lessons at five years old and singing lessons at seven. Since then, music has been his life. From 1996 – 2007, Mark had been an integral part of the South Florida rock scene singing for such bands as Battle Axis, Drop Silo, Home Brew, and Aggressive Intent. He worked double-duty as cofounder/promoter and DJ (under the guise of DDMN5K) for the weekly heavy metal showcase Mosh Macabre. In 2007 Mark moved from Ft. Lauderdale to Chicago.

Mark began singing for a Chicago heavy metal band almost immediately. In 2008, he left that project seeking a sound better suiting his style. After a brief hiatus from singing, Mark met Art Rento by a matter of fate in 2010.With a strong musical chemistry, the two became the founding members of Spinning Red.

Mark had been seeking a musical style for his raspy voice and sensitive lyrical themes: throwback nostalgic hard rock. He could not have found a better outlet for his needs. Mark is excited about what the future holds for Spinning Red.

Art Rento (Guitar) - was born in Chicago, Illinois. He began playing the piano at age 5 when his older sister was taking piano lessons. It wasn't until Art was 8 that he began taking lessons from Sister Marie Paul, the music director for St. Francis Borgia school. In his freshman year of high school Art began to experiment with his father's childhood Gibson Epiphone. That was the moment that Art realized he wanted to dedicate his life to music.

Devoted to a life of music, in 2008 Art received his bachelor's degree in composition and musical theory from Columbia College in Chicago. At Columbia, he began to perfect his guitar technique under famous classical guitarist Norm Ruiz. Art has taken numerous master classes with some of the best classical guitar players in the world and has been to Spain twice to study classical guitar at the famous Festival Guitarra Cordoba.

Over the course of Art's career he has worked in numerous projects with an array of musicians. From years of piano competitions to various acoustic and blues open mic nights, Art grew up performing in front of live audiences.

In 2010 Art had been looking to start a new musical project. He was introduced to Mark Burd and Spinning Red was born. Through Spinning Red, Art had found an avenue that allowed him to forge his own sound, blending perfectly with his band members’ styles. Art is thrilled with the adventurous writing styles that Spinning Red has employed and looks forward to sharing his songs with many listeners.

Dom Airdo (Bass) - Born in Chicago, Illinois, Dom started playing guitar at age 8 and quickly learned his true calling after listening to the likes of bassists Geezer Butler, James Dewar and Stanley Clarke. By age 15, he was a session bassist for veteran musicians. The next 10 years were spent playing in those session services and creating various projects.

In 1995, he began a project that utilized both his bass and guitar playing abilities. The project brought an original fusion of blues and metal, and added to a litany of accomplishments; including a distinct style forged from a lifetime of musical endeavors.

From a few stints with bands and a series of family events, Dom remained inspired to create more songs. He found himself seeking a solid fit for his musical stylings. A good twist of faith put Dom in contact with Art Rento. Now Dom seeks to lend his bass stylings to the continued success of Spinning Red.

Jeff Iversen (Drums) - was born in Chicago, Illinois. Jeff began playing the drums at the age 9 when he heard "Moby Dick" by Led Zeppelin. At that moment he turned to his parents and said, "I want to play drums like that guy!" John Bonham continues to be Jeff’s biggest influence behind the kit.

In 2003, Jeff's music style developed further when he began teaching himself to play the guitar. This quickly became the catalyst for writing original music ideas and developing them. Jeff loves to push himself to his limits in songwriting as a drummer, a guitarist, and occasionally as a vocalist.

Jeff has performed with a wide variety of bands, ranging in styles from blues to heavy metal. He has played hundreds of live shows including opening for the 90's rock band Live at The Eagle Ballroom in Milwaukee.

In early 2012, Jeff received a call from Art Rento asking him to come out and drum for his current project. The first night that he sat down behind the drums, the chemistry was obvious and Spinning Red had found the drummer it was looking for. You can feel the spirit of John Bonham flowing through Jeff when he adds his hard rocking and heartfelt drumming to the music. Jeff loves to put on a high-energy live performance and looks forward to bringing Spinning Red to the next level. JEFF SMASH!

Biography

Spinning Red is a Chicago hard rock band. Banded together and writing music since February 2010; Spinning Red has been showing Chicago how they rock with their intense live energy and carefully composed songs. Spinning Red’s music touches on a whole plethora of subjects and story lines seamlessly bridging the dreadfully real and the incomprehensibly abstract -from the “Stop and Go” like relationships we experience throughout our lives to the alien man-eater called "Judy Two Moons”.

This exciting band is composed of vocalist/poet Mark Burd, guitar virtuoso/songsmith extraordinaire Arthur Rento, bass guitarist/powerhouse rocker Dom Airdo, and power drummer/demolition expert Jeff Iversen. Each member of the band perfectly compliments each other’s playing and writing styles.

One of the most unique aspects of Spinning Red is that all members of the band write the music. It is an extraordinary combination of eclectic musical backgrounds, expertise and energy that creates their catchy music.

Since the summer of 2012, Spinning Red has played at many reputable rock venues in the Chicagoland area. They were finalists in Quest Broadcasting's Battle of the EFFN Rock concert competition, semi-finalists in WGN's Breakthrough Rock Band Contest, and headliners for Chicago Acoustic Underground's first ever CAU Rocks Showcase. Spinning Red also recorded and self-released their eponymous EP which can downloaded on iTunes, Amazon, and various other websites.
